Day 26: Mostar to Cvijetino Brdo, 312km

Day 26 - Mostar to Cvijetino Brdo, 312 km

Sun set
Right now, I'm watching the sun set over the moor-top summit where I've pitched camp tonight. Montenegro defies superlatives.

Long way down. Windy, too.
Rare selfie!
Morning's summit. Looking along the ridge line.
Day began in Bosnia, though, with a very stony climb out of Mostar to summit of Mt Brasina. (Not suitable for an s thou with pillion!) The answer to my question of "why did they even build this trail" was provided by the recent ruins of a bombed-out military outpost at the top. I rather nervously picked my way back down with half a brake lever and a balding front tyre.

That ridge line, from a different perspective.
More traffic.
In the interests of pace, I gambled the risk of missing anything as spectacular as yesterday on skipping a chunky loop to Kalinovik. To my bum-numbing regret, that turned out to be the last section of trail in the Bosnia. Views from road in Setjuska national park almost made up for it. Heavy industry in Gacko was also interesting in its own way.

Montenegro!

Trail from the border
National Park
Montenegro more than compensated. Trail almost from the border. Immediately more pastoral, and more off-road. Landmine risk diminished. Route veered over fields. OSM for first time not showing the tracks themselves (although some barely visible on the ground itself! Just tyre tracks in the grass).

Lake
Dramatic geology

No bike
It was a bit confusing at the border. TET turns to the left before customs/passport control, in no man's land, but you need to leave the other way first (sacrificing your passport) to buy green card insurance from a bar. Then double back through the border to take the junction, having checked carefully the guards won't shoot you!

Looking for somewhere to stop
No need to hide up here
Think it will be cold tonight. In fact, it's been a but chilly underway the last two days. Combination of clement weather and altitude. Roasting in Mostar and valleys though.

Um. Not sure this is gonna last to Belgrade...
